The Grace M. Pickens Public Library welcomes the use of the library by individuals of all ages to support their personal, educational and professional needs.
Library cards with borrowing privileges are issued free of charge to the following individuals:
Residents of the City of Holdenville
Residents of Hughes County
Individuals who attend school in Hughes County
Individuals who own property in Hughes County
If you meet the above criteria, you may apply for a free library card and enjoy full access to our collections and services.
If you do not live in Hughes County, do not attend school here, and do not own property in the county, you may still enjoy library access by applying for a nonresident library card.
Fee: $25.00 per household
Valid for: 12 months from the date of issue
Includes: Full library services for the applicant’s immediate family
This policy has been approved by the Grace M. Pickens Public Library Board.

To get a library card at the Grace M. Pickens Public Library, you must:
Apply in person
Provide two (2) forms of identification
For adults (18 years and older):
You must show:
Photo ID (to verify identity)
Proof of current address, such as:
Utility bill
Printed check stub with your address
Official DHS correspondence
Social Security correspondence
All documents must be recent and include the name and current address of the applicant.
Medical bills
Voter ID cards
Letters from family or friends
Handwritten receipts
Library Cards for Children and Teens
Children must be entering 1st grade or higher to apply.
All applicants under 18 must have a parent or legal guardian apply with them.
The parent/guardian must:
Provide the same acceptable ID listed above
Sign the child’s card, accepting responsibility for any borrowed items
Books, audio-books, and magazines: 2 weeks
Videos and DVDs: 1 week
Renew items as long as those items are not on reserve for someone else.
If an item is not available at the Grace M. Pickens Public Library, we can try to borrow it from another library through our Interlibrary Loan service, for $2.00 per item
Note: We do not request items that are already part of our collection but are currently checked out.
To use Interlibrary Loan, you must:
Have a current library card with the Grace M. Pickens Public Library
Have a positive borrowing history, meaning you've returned materials on time for at least 6 months.
Computer and Internet use is first-come, first-served. No advanced reservations for use will be taken.
There is a 30-minute time limit, unless no other users are waiting.
No more than two people may be seated at a computer workstation.
There is a maximum usage of two hours per day per person or group.
You may use free email sites available on the web for public use. Staff will gladly assist Internet users; however, we are unable to provide extensive instruction. During certain hours of operation, staff time may be limited. Use of the Library’s computers begins at 8:05 am and ends 10 minutes before closing.

Reservations for meeting room space are on a first-come, first-served basis. Library-sponsored programs will have preference.
No group may consider the library its permanent meeting place or use the library as its mailing address.
The library facilities may not be used for Government or Political issues. Religious worship, religious exercise or instruction or for the support of any religious establishment.
Meetings will conform to the scheduled operating hours of the library.
Groups using the library meeting rooms must not use advertising or publicity which imply that their programs are sponsored, co-sponsored or approved by the library.
The applicant will be held responsible for any damage, and the condition of the room after its use, e.g., chairs stacked, utensils washed, and the kitchenette cleaned. Failure to do so may result in the denial of future use of the room.
The Grace M. Pickens Public Library director has the authority to accept, renew, or reject requests for room usage with this established policy.
There shall be no interference with the use of the library by its patrons, e.g., noise, overcrowding of library or parking lot.
The library will not provide storage for any group.
The Grace M. Pickens Public Library is a smoke free facility.
The Library Manager may ask that meetings of youth groups have an adult in attendance.
Notify a library staff member if a meeting must be cancelled.
It is the responsibility of the applicant to provide necessary equipment if it is not available at the library.
Refreshments may be served, provided proper care is given to clean-up after the meeting. Alcoholic beverages may not be served or consumed on library property.
Failure to comply with the Meeting Room Use Policy and Guidelines and Rules will result in the withdrawal of meeting room use privileges.

You can read or listen to books on most mobile devices or your computer. They are free to borrow and they check themselves in automatically, so there are never overdue fines.
